SHOW TIME 2025

76 years – of Dartmoor Fun

Hello friends and loved ones out there!

Last year's fantastic Show produced a bumper crop – we estimated more than 1,000 visitors – with plump ripe tomatoes, hampers stuffed with goodies, apples for every day, and of course fantastic floral displays, yummy cookery and the brilliant animals made out of vegetables.

We're off again in 2025 so save the date:

Bank Holiday Monday 25th August

As usual there will be sports for all ages as well as an evening ceilidh (last year's was a real humdinger!). Tea in the marquee, games and stalls on the Show field and our now famous cross-country run.

If you want to show off your vegetables, fruit, flowers, cookery or craft skills you will find all the classes listed here with details of how to enter. You'll also find a programme for the day. Keep watching this site for up-to-date information...

Do come and help celebrate an incredible 76 years of the Scoriton Country Show.

The famous Scoriton Show cross country 2 mile run will take a somewhat different format this year. It will now follow a circular route, starting and finishing in the Show Field itself, and the minimum age for entrants will now be 10 rather than six years old. These changes are the result of a number of difficult discussions and decisions by the organising team, and we are very aware that they may come as a disappointment to many.  We would like to reassure everyone that our ethos remains unchanged; this is an event that is by the local community for the local community and we make every effort to ensure it is as inclusive as possible.

If you would like to know more about the reasons behind these changes, please read on.

We have seen a significant rise in the demand for places on the cross country run over the last few years and trying to balance that with transporting runners from the Show field to the start line safely has become increasingly difficult. The familiar site of runners (and especially very young runners) packed into private cars, opensided trucks and flatbed trailers has become less tenable in an environment where individual organisers can be held personally accountable for accidents and injury - regardless of the circumstances.

A lot of work has taken place this year to bring the broader planning and execution of the show in line with guidance issued by the health and safety executive and other government bodies.
As part of this we realised we had to make some decisive corrections to the way in which the Cross-Country run was conducted. Having explored many other options the twin actions that we agree would be most effective is the narrowing of the eligibility criteria and avoiding need to transport runners to the start.

We are hopeful that some of these changes may not be permanent. We know that the site of runners streaming down the hillside across the valley is an iconic part of the show, and that the heart bursting experience of cheering both the able and less able, young and old, keen and not so keen home across the line is something that many people hold dear.
There are almost certainly ways that the previous format could be retained and it may be that someone reading this has the ideas, expertise or resources (park runs, transport, risk managers etc)  that could help the organising Team deliver it safely. We are always welcoming of support in whatever shape, so please do contact the team using the details below if you can help.

We would like to thank you all for your understanding and hope that whether running or cheering you still thoroughly enjoy this wonderful event. Have a lovely day at the show.
